Simple question - Changing harddrives

#1 Post by JHelgie » Tue Jul 06, 2004 1:44 pm

I am pretty sure the laptop I am going to get for college will be a t42. When the warranty runs out and the drive eventually bites the dust, what options will I have? I was looking at the IBM website, and it's $400(!!!) for an 80gig drive. Will I have to get a drive from them, or could I just order one off newegg? I assume if I could, the APS thing wouldn't work?(I was looking at some fujitsu drives that say they have "Head Load / Unload mechanism with Inertia Latch technology", would that work with the APS thing?)

You will be able to use any standard notebook HD out there.
That same 80GB HD at zipzoomfly is only like $165 w/Full 3yr warranty.

I would assume the APS will work with any notebook HD
as it is software driven not buil in to the hardware of the drive.

The accelerometer is actually mounted to the system board, I believe...so there is no way to remove it with the hard drive (and no need to worry about what HD to put in...it will always be protected by APS!)
