Battery Question

The t42p I ordered came with the 9cell battery. Does this mean that it ships with the standard battery too, or just the 9? Also, how much bulk is added due to the big battery?

only the 9 cell, just a little, extends out the back a bit....

Hmm...

Apparently it weighs 5.9 pounds with the battery in. I guess it's not too bad for such a feature-laden notebook with an astonishing 5.25 hour battery life.

not bad at all.... some like the larger battery as it give a "handle" for carrying the laptop..... if you find you really want a 6 as well, you can get one from other companies cheaper than IBM... you will love your machine when you get it..welcome aboard!!!

I don't understand why someone would want to pick up their laptop by their battery or by anything that could come out? What happen to the base? I know IBm is quality but..... we shouldn't test its quality this way?.......

probably a good point, I don't even have a 9 cell battery, was only relating what I heard from others ("some like"). But if the lock is on, is it not a solid fit??? Comments from those that have???

Have any of you seen pics of the T-42 with the 9 cell battery?

Well, the 9 cell battery is handy if you have to carry the thinkpad with open display because you just need one hand, or if you have to work standing and without a desk. (You then have only one hand to write, though)

However, I don't think that justifies the extra weight, for me the only reason to get the 9 cell was the extended battery life.
