T40 consumes a LOT OF POWER while turned off and on battery

#1 Post by sevenw » Sun Nov 06, 2005 6:18 pm

I have upgraded to the newest BIOS and Embedded Security Chip. But it still drains battery when is turned off!! When I unplug the TP, in about 20 hours the battery is totally discharged.
This will happen when I will shut down or hibernate the computer. When I get the TP in Stand-By the battery will be out in few hours!!

Do you have some advice how to solve it?

I have T40 2373-19G (1,3 Banias, 512RAM, 30G)

I can hear some kind of high noise (squeaky) getting out of it when turned off=I think that it come out from the chipset, or fan or something like that...

I'm looking forward for any suggesion

Go to Start > Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced tab, and verify "When I press the power button on my computer:" that the choice is 'Shutdown'.

sorry for replying so late , but there something wrong with my settings of "notify me when a reply is posted"

GomJabbar: thanks, but I know how to turn off my compute, how to suspend it, or how to hibernate it. The problem ist't there, it consumes power at any type of switching it off....

kryotech: do I need to heve some kind of warrany list (I mean some papers, or document, or bill...) because I bougt my TP used (second hand), and I don't have any documents for it.
And I hope that I will find another way to solve this problem, I just dont want to be without my TP (it's my only computer now), and I'm afraid that if they do not accept my warranty, the repair would be expensive:(

Another question, do all Thinkpad T (T40) have 3 years warranty? Or you have to buy a longtime warranty?

sevenw: You can go to IBMs website and check the status of the warranty, as it follows the machine, not the buyer.

You can check it here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ubtype=Cat

Also, not all T40s had a 3 year warranty, specifically the 2378 series only came with one year, but their might be others.

if could be battery issue as well, try charging battery upto 100% and then take it off .... leave it disconnected overnight and see if it still looses charge.

If it looses then you have to buy a new Battery, Else you can get system board replaced under warrenty.
