error message 2010 on t42s?

#1 Post by UCI2CI » Sun Nov 06, 2005 8:46 pm

i've read the posts about hitachi 7k100 giving an error at POST (2010 message) on t43s, but are t42s affected also? If so, any specific bios versions cause this error message for the t42s.

As far as I know, there have been no reports of the 2010 Error on T42s

The T43s use a PATA-SATA Bridge, which seems to be the source of the problem; plus IBM Firmware not recognizing the Drives Firmware.

The error 2010 is T43 only... has to do with the SATA-to-PATA bridge... on the T43s. Since both the internal drive and ultraslim bay are both PATA on the T42s and earlier, the error 2010 isn't applicable to those earlier systems.

I'm using the Hitachi 100GB 7200rmp drive in my T42p (2373GRU) right now, and never had a problem.

one more related question. should i buy the hitachi 7k100, would i still be able to use the 7k60 i have right now in the ultrabay slot (given i buy the HD adaptor) without any performance loss?

7k100 100gb ---> faster, cooler, power saver than 7k60 60GB

the hard drive set under palmrest, therefore, the temperature does matter!

7k100's temperature is near 5k80.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

floyyed, what i meant was, does the ultrabay slot run as fast as ATA-100 hard drive slot? What i was thinking of doing was to remove the DVDRW drive and put my 7k60 in its place. But would the 7k60 run just as fast in the ultrabay slot as it would in the designated hard drive bay.

EDIT: disregard. seems like member RonS already did some tests and found that Ultrabay does not hinder performance
