Trackpoint buttons beep after return from repair

#1 Post by SteveDC » Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:37 pm

My T40 was returned from repair for a USB problem -- they replaced the "system board." Now, when the speaker is up, my Trackpoint left and right buttons beep -- like a calculator -- when I press them. Weird. What is this and how do I turn it off?

It might be a driver problem (hopefully). Try uninstalling the trackpoint driver. First download the appropriate driver from the following link. If you have a Touchpad too you need the UltaNav driver, otherwise you need the TrackPoint driver. Uninstall the trackpoint driver then install the new driver. When you download and install drivers from IBM's site (a 2-step process), you double-click on the file after download (it is usually saved in the C:\DownloadDirector\ directory). Then either run Software Installer or go to the directory where the extracted files were placed and double-click on Setup.exe.

Thank you for the tip. It led me to the problem.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers did not do it. I then noted that "TrackPoint and UltraNav Accessibility Features" was on my machine. I removed that, and the beeping stopped. I guess there is a setting on that routine to turn off the beep, but I'll just keep the software removed.
