Motherboard replacement TP-1Y___

#1 Post by donig » Fri Nov 11, 2005 12:25 pm

My T43p 2687-D5U died after a month. IBM replaced the motherboard (and in the process broke and replaced the keyboard), but now the machine type shows TP-1Y___ in all the Thinkpad utilities. This really screws up the ones that want to know what kind of machine I have, like the automagic software installer that used to work so nice.

Is there a utility that lets me fix this? Or do I yell at the service dept again?

Thanks,

Doni

Doni,

You'd need hardware maintance disk ver. 1.69 or above. It will let you update the serial number of your Thinkpad so all IBM's utilities will work fine. Let me know if you'd need help finding the software.

Yell at them and make them send you the thinkpad manteinance diskette version 1.72, they usually forget to change model type / serial number to the new system board! "%#&^$

Is there any place I can get this maintenance disk? I have to go through several layers of my local IT folks before it gets to the actual service people...

I did a google search, but didn't find anything.

Thanks,

The maintenance disk version 1.69 from that site doesn't recognize my T43p. I assume I need a later version. Anyone have a link to the later version?

1.69 is the latest version that I have found. I have not heard of anyone downloading a later version - except from IBM. However you cannot download from IBM unless you are a service partner. IBM does not make the Maintenance Diskette available to end users.

You'll probably have to bring or send your laptop to an IBM service center.

Service tech stopped by today. I had to explain to him very s-l-o-w-l-y what the problem was and how he was supposed to fix it. He said he would try to find the disk and come back tomorrow. <sigh>
