DVD playback question - PC Friendly?

#1 Post by cjsuh » Wed Jul 07, 2004 8:12 am

So, I received my T42 yesterday ( :D ) and one of the first things I did was pop in "The Matrix" to check out the DVD playback. Once the DVD loads, I get a prompt to install a program called "PC Friendly" that apparenty offers a bunch of extra features for my DVD's. However, when I try to play my movie using this program, the video goes in and out, sometimes only appearing in partial segments on my screen. So, I uninstall PC Friendly and, instead, play the DVD by right-clicking on the drive and selecting "play" and the DVD works perfectly.

My question is: Is anyone familiar with PC Friendly and able to tell me why it isn't working on my machine? And, is there another (better) DVD playback program available that I might want to check out?

Thanks for the help!

PC Friendly is a nuisance. I always avoid to install it.

The WinDVD that came with the T42 works just fine. If you want even more extra feactures, (very few people will need that) get PowerDVD if you want more power on the image or WinDVD full version if you like more control in the sound reproduction.
There are even free versions out there with region decryption but those may be on the bounds of legality. I apply a fair-play rule for these.
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)
