T42p internet upload speed problem on T1 line
T42p internet upload speed problem on T1 line
I manage the Thinkpads at a small business. They have two T42p's that have just been rebuilt from factory images.
We have an ATT dedicated line. Although the download/upload speeds should be the same, at 1.5Mbps, both T42p's have upload speeds of about 0.585 Mbps (the download speeds are fine at 1.5 Mbps - as they should be).
A single Sony laptop that we use gives us 1.5 Mbps both up and down.
The T42p's use the latest version of Access Connections and Intel 2200 a/b/g wireless with the latest drivers.
We measured the speeds using one of the internet speed test sites and all the laptops are connected using the same wireless access point.
Does anyone have any ideas about why the T42p's have such slow upload speeds, compared with the Sony?

If you are using the Intel 2200 wireless card to connect, you may very well be a member of:michaelj wrote:I manage the Thinkpads at a small business. They have two T42p's that have just been rebuilt from factory images.

I have heard solutions ranging from installing the newest drivers, reverting back to old ones, disabling encryption.
Thanks
I was aware of the issues- I am using D-Link Access Point's throughout their office. The connections don't drop. Just the discrepancy between upload and download speeds. Maybe I should swap out the Intel for IBM wireless cards.

Try to change the MTU size to a lower value (ex. 1400) and test again; maybe you'll get a better upload speed. Good luck.

Reading AIX's post reminded me of a tweak tester for improving connection speeds. http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
DKB
thanks for the info. I know of Tweak Tester at dslreports.com- used it many times.
Interesting that my client was testing the speed using www.internetfrog.com
I tried using dslreports speed test and got a much better upload speed. Leads me to think it has more to do with the testing website than the actual speed of the line.
The MTU adjustment is a good idea. Will try it.
