Disabling touchpad?

#1 Post by dalee18 » Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:04 pm

I'm planning to upgrade from my Thinkpad 600 (now 6 years old) to a new T41 (2379DJU). To be perfectly honest, the primary reason I'm choosing to go with IBM again is the trackpoint mouse system. While I love IBM notebooks and believe they are superior to all other brands, the cost is a bit of on obstacle for me (a poor college student). But, I've decided to take the plunge and upgrade. My question is, can you fully disable the touchpad? I wish to use only the trackpoint. I'd really prefer it if the T series were available without the touchpad. If you can't disable the touchpad, I think sadly, I'll have to look at alternatives (like the 10 lb G series...gag).

Thanks

I have mine disabled..go into the control panel, and then mouse, and then in the Ultranav section..from there you can disable it.

If you don't physically want it there, search around, there's a few posts with the model number for a Pad-less palmrest which you can put in yourself.

I just updated from a 6 yr old TP600 264545U to a new T42 2378DUU.
I was also a bit concerned about the touchpad. As it turns out, I actually use it a bit when I get fatigued from a lot of trackpoint use.

Again - you can easily turn it off. BTW, I had also been considering a Sony VGN-S150, a new 16x9 wide screen model. The trackpoint, and reliability of IBM convinced me to stay with Blue!

I don't use it, but leave it turned on. Why? Well, I find that it rarely gets in the way AND I find that the programmable buttons (below the touchpad) are VERY usefully!
