Strange T42 2200/BG wireless behaviour

#1 Post by lqw » Thu Nov 17, 2005 3:10 am

Hi,

I have a T42 with an internal Intel 2200/BG wireless card. I am connected
with it to my 11MBit/s home network.

When I'm running with the power supply plugged in, everything works as
expected, performance-wise. If I unplug the power and am running on
battery, the network performance goes down and I have a good deal of
packet loss. This is under XP Prof fully patched and with the latest Intel drivers
9.0.2.

I am not sure if it's software (power management) or hardware (antenna?)
related but maybe someone has had similar problems and hints for me?

Thanks

a customer of us also has the same problem

IBM T42-2373NTH Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection 802.11B+G.

I recommend you use Intel PROSet software, instead of XP's. When you use the battery, please config only 802.11b or only 802.11g, not 802.11b and g.

Don't worry. Wish you Luck.

If you are using Access Connections, then under the Wireless tab (when you edit a location profile) there are power-saving options. I imagine your wireless connection is going into power-saving mode when on battery.

Well, I don't know what you mean with "access connections", but I found
power management options in the device manager->properties->
advanced
By disabling the default value and going with the slider to "highest", it now
seems to work. I am going to swap the Intel crap for an ralink based
gigabyte gn-wikg adapter, though. Thanks for all your help
