Backup Access Connections Location Profiles

#1 Post by rmazzaro » Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:53 pm

Does anyone know of a method to backup up the location profiles in Access Connections using a batch technique? We run routines that back up user files to a network server and it would be more than helpful in the event of a drive crash or re-image of a Thinkpad.

I know there's the export options in the menu but would like to do this without user intervention. I also see that the locations are listed in the registry in 3 different locations but wanted to avoid messing with the registry for obvious reasons.

A call to Lenovo(IBM) level 2 support yielded nothing as expected.

I was hopeful there was a simple way to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Have a look in here: C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities\Res\US on one of your systems.

You'll find the qconnect.chm. Look for the "Command line interface" - lots of info, particularly:

Export Location Profiles (files of type .loc only)
<path> \qctray.exe /exp <location profile path>

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the idea Neil.

We recently deployed a new "default" profile to people using QCTRAY. The downside of this tool is unless you know the names of the locations, you're unable to export them for backup purposes.

Some people have several set up for home, airports, hotels, etc... and we have no way to get those off of their machines and into a safe location.

I might have to test grabbing the sections from the registry to see if that will work.

There is an adminstration enabler for Access Connections. I have it as 1RCO01WW.exe. You run this file that places AdmEnblr.exe in the folder ...\ConnectUtilies. You then run this program and it enables the Profile Distribution menu. Might help you, but I don't know if it can be run silently (batch) ... JD Hurst

No need to know the name of any of the locations - that command exports all of the location profiles on a machine to a location you specify. For instance, I have 3 profiles set up on one of my machines for 3 seperate locations. On it, I ran the following command :

C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\ConnectUtilities>qctray.exe /exp C:\test

and in C:\test landed a file called Qconnect.loc.

Taking this file to another machine with Access Connections installed and double clicking on it, I was prompted to select which of my 3 location profiles I wanted to import....
