Mini T43 Review

#1 Post by kai920 » Fri Nov 18, 2005 1:53 pm

Hi guys,

Nothing earth-shattering here, but I wrote a small mini-review on the T43.

For those interested, go to http://www.kaitech.hk/

Feel free to post comments and suggestions either here or at the end of the review.

Thank you 8)

Nice review, thanks for sharing kai. Just bought a T42 2373-M1U myself, love it so far. But I must admit that the veritical viewing angle does require some getting used to. My 1.5 year old Compaq R3000 1280 X 800 screen does not suffer like this TP, strange.

May I ask how much your bundle cost?

Henry :D

I paid HK$ 16,500 for my entire package. which is about USD2128 according to www.xe.com/ucc . Feel free to let me know if I got ripped off

Had a contact in Canada who could have gotten me a VERY nice deal, but I just couldn't wait. Actually, more like the salesman talked me into buying it on the spot.:roll:

Besides the extra 9-cell battery, they "gave away" a mini wireless optical mouse, a Targus ThinkPad carrying case (which I haven't used yet, been using the old one for my T41 that is almost exactly the same), and a Sandisk Photo Viewer. I've since found out that the last item is almost completely worthless... On Ebay someone was selling a lot of 10 for $11

And to the others, I agree: I love my T43 so far as well :)

Kai, sounds like a decent deal given that electronics in HK isn't exactly cheap, and the slight premium for 'gotta have it now'. At least you didn't have to deal with the US Customs and FDA like I did with my order.

Enjoy your new toy!

I missed the famous fan noise under "T43 Cons".

Hmm, I've seen lots of that problem mentioned on these forums, but so far (knock on wood) I have not really noticed anything out of the ordinary on my T43.

Maybe it will surface from some wear n' tear, or it's just not enough of a problem to bother me... or perhaps they even fixed the problem!

as luck would have it, my fan just revved up to audible levels, then died down. Lasted maybe 2 seconds total. Is this the "famous" fan noise problem?

Why, yes....The Fan doing its job has seem to have been labelled a "Problem"
Even some T42ps do this; Obviously, the fan shouldn't even spin up to cool the computer down...It should do it via some sort of solid state cooling that doesn't involve it spinning at all. ;)

Sarcasm over with, that is all the "Fan Problem" I have encountered on my T43 even though I have been using it for quite a few months now and have put a *heavy* load on it. IMO, this "Fan Problem" affects some T42s and some T43s; the other, how shall I say...over blown?, reports about the fan are somewhat the product of too much excitement as far as I can tell. That and the Heat issue is, quite frankly, barely an issue at all since my Friend's T42 can get hotter than my T43 which runs cool for a long time. As an example, I made an hour long Lab Presentation on battery while hooked up to a projector. The Fan didn't come on for 45 minutes, then went to Level 1 for about 15-10 minutes. After running PyMol, Visual Fortran, MATLAB, and Powerpoint, sometimes simultaneously, it was only lukewarm (around 53 degrees) when I touched it. :D
