Hey,
I got my T43 about 6 months ago (no fingerprint reader) and did a complete wipeout of the IBM partition. I run a pretty minimal machine (20 processes running in background), which boots rapidly and runs very quickly. Recently, however, I have decided I want to implement some more security (largely from remote access). What are the best ways to go about this?
I have activated Windows Firewall
I will not do automatic updates running (resource hog)
I was reading about Client Security Software v5.43 including File and Folder Encryption and SafeGuard PrivateDisk
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57272
What are your thoughts on this? It seems great, but am I going to see a serious bogdown in my boot time and overall performance
How to increase security on my T43--Client Security Software

As far as I have seen, it isn't much of a resouces hog; certainly not as much as Windows Auto Update; I have the CSS running and the Security Chip Enabled, it is quite nice. Also, I would use Keiro as the Firewall and not the default Windows Firewall since, not only is it irritating and sucks up a significant portion of reousrces, it also as some holes that stuff routinely slips through (run a check with Spybot Search & Destroy and you will pick up around 7-9 Spyware Instances along with Cookies) Keiro blocks all that crap and it pretty much free.

Also, if you really want security, enable the Power-On and HDD Passwords

You have to hit the Blue IBM Access Button during the BIOS Splash Screen at startup, then, once the R&R screen opens up, you click "Access BIOS" and "Yes"
The computer should restart at this point and you will see the BIOS Setup Utility Screen as well.
Select, Security and then select Password; then select Hard Disk Password; you can go with the User+Master Setup for now as it can be changed later
EDIT: If you set User+Master, you will also be prompted to set a User Password too.
If you want even more Security, you can set the Supervisor Password, which is essentially a Superlock/Overwatch Password that controls the BIOS and what gets committed to the Memory within the BIOS Setup Utility.
Another thing that might help is the Memory Protection Feature
