Can't find Lotus Smart Suite

#1 Post by rleo25 » Wed Nov 23, 2005 1:17 pm

Recently I received my TP T42 23734WU, and surpringly did'n find the Lotus Smart Suite installer, neither Lenovo in it's entire system upgrade installed it, no matter in the IBM bookleets they say all these machines come with a free license.

Could anybody tell me where or how can I get such software... Maybe it's a dirty trick from microsoft?

By the way I didn't like Lenovos in a sort of abusive way changed the use of my blue Acces IBM button for a link to the Thinkadvantage module which has 4 icons alrready instaled on my desctop and in the start menu...
Hoe can I reconfigure this button (pure nostalgia indeed...) [/b]

Well, the Lotus Smart Suite is available in a Trial Download (????) from IBm's Website.

As to the Access IBm Button...What of it? Lenovo changed the method by which the thinkpad can update itself; I wouldn't advise trying to rebind anything to the old IBM Updater, even if it was possible. The old IBM Updater can no longer access the Server for the Updates from IBM as this would suggest IBM took that server down when the switch was made to the ThinkVantage Software Installer. As to the Icons on the Desktop, you can just delete those.

There used to be a number in the back of the manual that comes with the Thinkpad.
If it is still in there, you call them and order the CD's for Lotus notes and SmartSuite Millenium edition free of charge.

You have to call IBM and request your free copy.
As far as I remember, there was info about it somewhere in the paper manual that came with my T40 with telephone numbers. I called them and got the suite two days later, no questions asked.

Lotus Smart Suite and Access IBM button

#5 Post by rleo25 » Thu Nov 24, 2005 10:58 am

Ok folks, thanks for your advice... never mind, I won't change my Office instead of the Lotus'. Sort of [censored] sometimes by the offerings sellers don't respect.

As for the Access IBM button I will take Christopher_wolf advice, there is no reason to get tied to the past if it doesn't serve for an useful purpose.

Well my friends, as you already know, I got recently a T42 23734wu (Out of factory 05/03. It still has the "Made for IBM" label).

This piece of equipment is nice and very well bult, however it is dissapointing in the monitor department (low screen resolution, view angle and color definition), now I'm trying to fix a little its appearence with the Adobe's gamma utility, so if anybody could help me to introduce the following adjustments I would appreciate:

Which ones are the best settings for:

1. ICC Profile
2. Phosphorous
3. Gamma
4. Hardware white point
5. Adjusted white point

Thank you in advance... 8)

Errr, the label should say "Made for Lenovo" and "Manufactured by IBM" somwhere. At least, that is what mine said when I got it. :)

Yup! "Manufactured for IBM Corporation
Armonk, New York, USA
Made in China"

Maybe one of the last items of the real IBM Thinkpads...

Still in need of some advice on monitor settings...

and... Happy Thanksgiving! (Take a look at tomorrow's Wall-Mart rebates, maybe you'll find some goodies for the lappy)
