E7k100 in t40?

#1 Post by marko » Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:06 am

Is the E7K100 drive series compatible with a t40 (2378CU1)?

Thanks,

Marko

Travelstar E7K100 supports both PATA and SATA inferface

So the PATA model will work, the SATA wont on a T40

Just remember to update your embedded controller to 3.04 and your bios to version 3.19

Will remember to order the PATA...is there a significant drop in performance?

So the PATA-SATA bridge in T43 is not available on a T40? Is that correct?

The T40 only accepts PATA?

Let me know...please...thanks!!!

There is no PATA-SATA Bridge on the T40. :)

I thought the "E" series drives were intended for Blade server use, not laptops.

Well, the 7k100 series...whatever...

well i guess i will have to ensure it's the ATA one...

Any loss in performance though?

Loss in performance compared to what?
It should be at least equal in performance to a 7K60 and better in performance to anything slower.

E7K100

#9 Post by leegaard » Mon Nov 28, 2005 5:35 pm

The PATA version of at E7K100 will certainly be compatible with the T4X series that have PATA interface. (It may generate the often mentioned messages as may the 7K100 depending on the model you have. Other may have more accurate info than I. I believe its model T43 and above that will generate the boot bios errror.

However - The E7K100 lacks the ability of advanced powersaving. Its more robust concerning 24-7-365 usage, but will consume much more power. Much more power will mean much more fan-noise, so its not just a question about batterylife ...

In terms of performance loss...I was wondering if ATA one will produce noticeable slower results than an SATA one when working with it? Obviously, having a t40 I have no choice...purely a curiousity question....

Also, someone here said the E7k100 doesn't have advanced power saving...Does the 7k100 have it?

Thanks,

Marko

Appreciate all your response...i'm looking to upgrade my 30 gb drive...not sure if I should go with 60 or upwards to 80 maybe even 100...although its pricey...I would like a 7200 rpm drive...although if advised against I will look into the 5k100 series.
Cheers and adios

I've been using an E series 40 gig 7200 rpm drive in my laptop for well over a year with no issues at all...YMMV.

Yup ..

The 7K100 certainly does have the powersaving feature.
