T40p network connection problem
T40p network connection problem
I just reloaded my T40p with Windows XP Pro. Ive loaded all the drivers from IBMs website and everything is installed except I cant get the ethernet port to work. Now I guess it could be a busted NIC but my internet connection worked with the Windows 2000 load I got from the factory. The NIC card driver is installed as an Intel MT1000. What am I doing wrong?
It's possible you may need to upgrade the BIOS to a later version. Make sure you have the correct 'Intel PRO/100/1000 LAN adapter' driver installed. Have you install the Intel Chipset drivers? - probably won't make a difference, but it might. Also make sure that your Cat 5 cable is good - try another cable.

Try pulling up a command prompt and type in ping 127.0.0.1
you should get 4 replies with no loss of packets. Again from command promt type in ipconfig/ all, what do you get there? In device manager are there any red or yellow marks on the ethernet adapters? Make sure the network adapter is not disabled. Uninstall the driver and reinstall. Maybe try the 2000 driver? Turn the firewall off for testing.
If you can try connecting to another machine with a crossover cable and two static IP's. This would eliminate any network hardware i.e. router, firewall, another pc, bad cables, that could be interfereing with your connection.

I sent a ping to 127.0.0.1 and it worked fine with no packet loss. The only thing that is yellow in device manager is the USB Controller - I cant seem to get UBS2.0 to work on this thing. The Intel PRO/1000 MT connection & Daul-band Wi-Fi Wireless Mini PCI adapter are installed and enabled. I know the cat5 cable is good because it is the same one plugged into my Dell that is plugged into my cable modem. The BIOS upgraded but I reinstalled it just to make sure and it said it didnt need to be. Man this sucks...
Try the following.styles1 wrote:Can anyone help with the usb 2.0 not working on W2K please? What do I need to install for it to work? Thanks
