Did you create a password recovery disk?

Do you have Rescue and Recovery disks?

You don't even get the Thinkpad splash screen?

It was loaded with Japanese XP...as I am in Japan now. I crashed the OS while installing an english OS, W2k server, after partitioning the disk with partitioning magic. Then I installed Windows 2000 professional with clean install, used w2k to repartiiton the drive and also installed w2k server. I did not remove the service partition.

After that I saw that, the Bluse IBM Access button dont work. I can go to bios after pressing F1.

Then I thought, it would be great to give a HDD password and bios password. I set them and restart the machine to check them. But after memory count, cache count...hdd diagnostic, no password prompt screen come and just the blank screen...seems the machine stopped responding.

I dont have any password recovery disk and RR disk. But there is a smilar machine in my home of my colleague. Same machine. So I guess I can prepare a RR disk.

Now can u please tell, how can I reset the bios password and hdd passwod.

Thanks

gosh, i sure hope that you remember what those passwords were..

and that you did not mis-type them..

that said, if it were me..

1. i would review the on drive manual on your friends thinkpad..

then..

2. i would pull the hard drive and see if i could boot into the bios..
if so, try to get in and out using the password..
if it works, then you can remove it following the directions closely..

and then..

3. use your friends thinkpad and a spare hard drive and create a fresh recovery image and then try that drive in your thinkpad..

if that all works out, then do a recovery to your hard drive..
if it is not password protected..
if it IS, you'll need to try and remove the password before it can be recovered with the original preload..

hope this helps to a small degree..

Hi Bill
Thanks for you reply Actually I tried all the possible way. Ofocurse I memorized my pass word..it was simply my birth year and that I cant forget.

I tried:

1. removing all the parts like DVD, HDD, battery...then pressing the Power on button for a minute...
2. removing the hdd, poer on and tried to enter in the bios...

...and many ways...but some how the text to enter my password is not coming...my machine is not giving me the option to enter thw HDD/BIOS password...

Anyway...I called the IBM service center and they took my machine to their office. Hope I'll get it soon with good condition. :(

But if anybody know about the solution, please let me know. So that I dont have to call IBM personal again...

By the way, there is a hole under the T43...any idea, what is that?

hole..??

describe the hole..

it could be a vent where the cooing air enters the thinkpad..

IRT password..
it could be coincidental that it failed at this particular moment..

if ibm now has it let us hope they find the problem to be trivial..
