T43 15" SXGA display. Uneven/cloudy brightness

#1 Post by Shimodax » Tue Nov 29, 2005 9:37 am

I have a 2668-97G with a 15" SXGA. I'm noticing some "cloudyness" and differences in brightness. A bit similar to what happens if you press a finger against the display and take it away. It's especially noticeable on blue backgrounds.

It's darker at the sides (about 1cm at the right) and a small brighter strip at the bottom. It's looking a bit as if the display was mounted under strain. But also the main area of the has subtle clouds, they shift depending on how you look at them.

It looks like TFTs from the early days but I wouldn't expect something like this on a modern display. OTOH I have a 4 year old T23 here with 14" SXGA with an entirely even brightness, same as on my 17" HP desktop monitor).

Is this a general quality thing twith the 15" SXGAs? Does anybody else notice this?

Do you experience this all the time or just in specific cases?
I don't quite understand what the problem is with your LCD, but I can tell you the 15" sxga+ should be an amazingly good screen, which is what I really love about my T43. (BTW, I also hate it because of the heat problem.)

It's a general problem although it's sometimes more or less noticeable at different lighting conditions.

Today I put my old T23 (SXGA 14§") next to the T43. They both have clounds in different areas. The T23 has a brighter backlight (comparing highest and lowest levels) and better contrast (black is "blacker" on white). The differences are subtle and hard to describe, but I like the T23 display a lot better, in some odd way it's more natural and balanced (for lack of better words).
