Newly-minted Thinkpad owner with intriguing "pixel"

#1 Post by Cmdr.Keen » Sat Dec 03, 2005 2:00 am

I've perused this forum for sometime now, and was pleased to find such a supportive community, especially for new Thinkpad owners such as myself.

My wife bought my T43 a few weeks ago as an early Christmas gift, and I absolutely love it! I do have a strange bug that seems to crop up from time to time, and thus the second portion of the thread subject...

The reason I surrounded the word "pixel" with quotes was because it isn't the dead pixel problem I initially thought it to be (and I was quite upset/panicked at the thought!) but rather something to do with center button of their TrackPoint system.

From time to time, after using it (generally during web surfing) for an extended period of time, I see a single white pixel on my desktop (which is black...I know, boring). At first, I thought it was a dead pixel, but the "color" kept changing in contrast to its surroundings. Finally, after much experimenting, I found that if I hovered the cursor exactly over the point, the "up/down" icon popped up. Repeatedly tapping the center button then made it go away. Also, logging off, then back on made it disappear.

Has anyone else run into this anomaly?

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Push the center untranav button (the one right above the mouse pad) to make it go away.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Thanks for the info - I *finally* figured out how to make it go away, and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with the problem.

Congrats to you - of the dozens who have come here asking about this VERY irritating and VERY common problem, you're the only one in my memory who has also figured out the solution for him/herself :)

I have this too from time to time. I don't know if I figured it out for myself or just knew what to do because I had read it on the forums beforehand.
