Question about dual display

#1 Post by dansu » Sat Dec 03, 2005 4:48 am

I have thinkpad connected to an external display on extended desktop mode. Whenever I close the latop lid, the display setting changes so that the external monitor becomes the primary one. When I open the lid again, the laptop screen becomes the primary monitor and the dual display setting is lost.

At one time, I was able to close the lid of my laptop without any of this happening. I.E. I would have a movie running on the secondary display and I would be able to open and close my laptop screen without any display settings changing. Basically, I want to tell the computer to stop trying to automatically reset the displays. I know this can work because I have done it previously in the past. However, when I try to do it again with what seems to be the exact same settings, it doesn't work.

Does anybody have any experience with this? For those of you guys running dual displays on extended desktop mode, try putting your finger on the button sensor that tells the laptop that the screen is "closed" and see what happens.

If you're using the Omega drivers, you can go to Display Settings -> Settings tab -> advanced -> displays tab and set your external monitor to be display 1. This should prevent it from switching when you close your screen. I don't think the stock graphics drivers support this (at least I couldn't do it on my dad's T42).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I'm using the latest IBM driver and I can switch the external to primary. It still automatically switches though.
