Software installer 3.15 problem

#1 Post by pipspeak » Sun Dec 04, 2005 3:05 am

Just automatically upgraded to the latest and greatest software installer (3.15) but the new version can no longer connect to the internet. Up pops the "connecting to web service" window but it promptly closes without connecting, and nothing further happens.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting, giving it full uber-access status in ZoneAlarm, but still no luck. The old version worked fine, so not sure what's happened.

Anyone have any suggestions? Am I now doomed to download all updates manually?

OK, so I guess I'll wait a day (it being Sunday maintenance day n'all) and see if it works later.

yup, that happens from time to time; not always on Suday or the end of the week, but infrequently. I can imagine updating a rather large internet database with alot of traffic with software images that they know for sure must work on all systems is time-consuming at least. ;) :)

Hi there!
Just though I should say that I have the same problem also.

I hope it's just maintenance now, cause a couple months ago I had the Software Installer crash every time I ran it. It turned out it was a problem only with the Norwegian version of the Software Installer, and I guess that's why nobody except me was talking too much about it :)

It would be nice though, if the program itself gave the message that it was server maintenance, instead of just closing the dialog box and returning to the main window.

Kind regards,
Idar

3.15 has been out for several weeks now and works fine. Try it tomorrow.

Well, 12 hours later and it's still not connecting to the web service. Guess I'll try again in another 12 hours.

EDIT: still not working as of 7:30 PST. Is it normal for the web service to be down almost 24 hours (seems strange), or should I assume the Software Installer app is not working?

It is running now, and was running late Sunday if I recall correctly. It was certainly running on Monday as well. ... JD Hurst
