T43 Trackpoint selection guidance please

#1 Post by cerebral_mamba » Tue Dec 06, 2005 5:46 am

I have recently ordered a T43 and now realize they provide options of Classic Dome, Soft Dome and the Soft Rim Trackpoints. I have never used a Trackpoint and have no clue as to what the differences are, but I frequently read that Classic Dome is the worst.

1. What will my T43 ship with by default?

2. Should I call them and ask for a particular one?

3. Can I change it myself in the future. Is it like changing the iPod cover  ?

I am adding a poll to get a feel of what people like the most. On NotebookReview forum, the Trackpoint won over as prefered pointing device over the Touchpad.

1. the TP ships with all 3 caps. The Soft Dome is usually fitted out of the box.
2. N/A because of above
3. you just pull off the old one and push on another.

You can order a pack of all 3 too. IBM P/N 73P2698

I vastly prefer soft dome. IMHO the other two hurt after a while.

I *really* prefer the soft dome that comes as the the default. It is very good for long-term use as well as quick response use. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
