can i make Fn F5 work in T41 without access connections?
no problem, i wasnt trying to sound like and a$$ in any of this, i was just getting a little excited, haha.smugiri wrote:It turns out that you are right on multiple counts "kidtriton"
1. The Fn + F5 combo is an ACPI event in the T4x series. The documentation I originally looked at was talking about an older machine, I think maybe an R31 or T30 but I am embarassed to say that I cannot find the page I looked at any more.
2. I am running SuSE 10.0 with the 2.6.13-15 kernel and both of these can handle the ACPI event generated by the key combo.
I did make a mistake is stating the the functionality was handled as an power on/off in the T4x series since although this was true for other lines before, this is not the case for this line. The rest of the post was correct though in that all I was trying to say was that you can use Fn+F5 functionality without having Access Connections and I now realize that one must have some sort of ACPI aware software to do this.
Thanks for putting me in the straight and narrow about how this works.
thanks again for helping me get those older drivers.dr_st wrote:Glad you got this to work. As I said, getting this functionality to work, once it stopped due to driver update, involved some trial and error on my behalf, so I just set it up so it works and stopped touching it.
I finally was able to create a pristine image for my laptop now with the 2200bg card installed.
I'll chip in on my findings.
I was having the exact same problem with my T43 after a system recovery. The recovery disc installs AC 3.8 by default. As soon as I uninstall it Fn F5 stops working.
I then try to install AC 4.0 after which Fn F5 gives me the location profile menu. Although the radio ON/OFF buttons are present but it has no affect on the network card (it stays on regardless). So I removed AC 4.0 as I don't use it.
I then downloaded the Intel wireless driver 9.0.2.31 manually and Fn F5 works perfectly now without AC. Fn F5 now gives me the simple option of turning the radio ON/OFF.
BTW...I have a 2200. Hope this helps.
