Getting Sony Battery inplace of Sanyo?
Getting Sony Battery inplace of Sanyo?
Anyone else have difficulties doing this?
I was told he could replace the battery but only with another battery of the same model. He was kind, just said there was nothing he could do. Any suggestions?

I told them that I travel a lot and can't afford to have the batteyr accidently disconnect, and here's the FRU of the part I need to replace my battery...
Just got my 9 cell, did the 6 cell a cpl of weeks back

IBM ThinkPad T42 (2378-FVU), 14.1" SXGA, ATI 9600, 512MB, 40GB, DVD-ROM/CDRW, 6 cell and 9 cell battery, Waterfield bag (sfbags.com)
i have to say, ive been reading all this info about the batteries, and after my 3VU came with the sanyo, i ordered the sony battery following everyones advice. however, i have to say, after putting in the sony, i dont see a big differance. they both wobble and im not any more impressed with the sony than i was with the sanyo. oh well.
I'm a little confused...just got my GRU and just my luck got a sanyo battery which wobbles. How exaclty do you guys get IBM to replace it?
I also see that people ge the "China" keyboard replaced with the "Thai" keyboard, I havent checked mine yet but I will soon. For both things do you just call up IBM and say you want a new one or does the one you have right now actually have to be "broken"?

I think you either have a real issue with defective equpiment (in the case of the battery and/or keyboard) or you have to be really picky to do all of this. I have both the "China" keyboard and the "Sanyo" battery, and sure there are some slight flexing/movement in them, but seriously, does it impact your ability to use the computer comfortably? Or are we looking for these issues because theres nothing else wrong with the computer? I personally think my system is perfect, and the 'issues' with the keyboard and battery are simply a matter of opinion....just ask yourself, am I trying to replace this because I read about it on a message board, or is it because you genuinely noticed a problem?? Don't get caught in the hype, and remember, abuse of IBM's generous service policy will lead to higher prices in the future.

Benz - can't agree more. Ok, so my 15" has no dead pixies (!) but what the hell, the keyboard is A1 - and after reading the posts I can assure you I looked for flex - ZERO. The bbattery wobbles a bit, but strangely enough, I tend to forget this when I'm using the machine as I concentrate on the other side (keyboard etc !!) - the battery hasn't yet fallen out when I was carrying the laptop around so my feet are safe, at least for the moment...I think perhaps these are REAL problems, but perhaps amplified somewhat.
I think the bottom line is I USE my laptop - and this one suits my needs, and is sufficiently well put-together for me.

IS this a joke?
My Sony battery has a slight wobble in it, just like on my T40 and R50. Not a bog deal. It sure is not going to fall off. If you are carrying your T42p by the battery, you are screwing up to begin with.
As far as the keyboard goes, mine feel as good as it gets.

Sorry for the rant, but I am just getting tired of reading all this nonsense about people trying to get replacement parts that are made in different countries.....sometimes just for the heck of it (and of course because its free). By all means, if you have a legitimate problem with some part of the computer, please go to IBM and try to get a replacement. But like I said, a lot of it seems to be hype.
That said, here's to all the satisfied owners!

It only takes one post and the wildfire begins. If I were IBM I would go into the battery bios and change them all to Sony and send the same battery back to these people! <vbg>
They won't notice a difference

If the keyboard on my 2373KXU did not feel as good as my previous ThinkPads, I would do the same. I was just saying that ALL of my 9cell batteries on my last 3 ThinkPads had a slight wobble. For that I would not send it back in.cjsuh wrote:I agree with the sentiment. But, for what it's worth, I would have paid for this new keyboard if it was an upgradeable accessory. I really believe the difference is that significant. But that's just me.

You are right the countries and keyboard problems has gotten a little crazy. Thai-made US, Thai-made Swiss, German, French, China, even Japan? Even the attempts of getting the correct part number have been dizzying to read. The most interesting aspect of the two parts is that the battery problem is the one that does not get fixed that well but it is easiest to find. It is either Sony or Sanyo. The keyboards on the other hand may be the most important because you actually touch this part of the computer but it clearly the hardest to get.
