Ask a silly question...

#1 Post by cjsuh » Sat Jul 10, 2004 11:40 pm

This isn't affecting my wireless connection at all, it's just irking me a little bit. But, the little radio icon on my ThinkPad (looks like an ascending bar chart) hasn't functioned ever since I installed and connected my notebook to my home linksys router. When I double click on it, it says "Radio OFF".

What exactly is this thing? When I first received my laptop, it connected automatically to one of my neighbor's networks and this chart was active. Now, it's just grayed out. Do I need it? And how can I get it online again?

Sorry for what probably is a very silly question, but it was bugging me for the past couple days and I just had to know! :D

What do you use for wireless? Access Connections or Windows XP Wireless Zero?

And since you touched on that subject, I read several times that people have had problems with Access Connections and have uninstalled the program because of these problems. I don't appear to have any major issues, but it is generally better to use the Win XP tool to connect my ThinkPad? Or should I be okay with AC?

If AC works fine then just use it. Make sure you disable Wireless Zero. They don't really like each other.

1. Right-click the My Network Places icon on your Windows desktop.
2. Choose the Properties option.
3. Right-click the network connection for the wireless network adapter.
4. Choose the Properties option.
5. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
6. Uncheck the “Use Windows To Configure My Wireless Network Settings” option.

Restart, and check the wireless indicator icon. Is it working now? If still not, then update AC to 3.21.

Or just disable that icon:

In Access Connections, go to options and disable that icon from the system tray.
