IIRC, the multi-burner that comes with the T42 is made by matshita which is the same company as panasonic, so there's a chance that that would work...

i very highly doubt it will work since the Ultrabay Slim drivers are thinner than normal DVD drives

That is strange... who buys internal DVD-RW writers when we do not know to which laptops it will fit?
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

No, it won't work because it won't fit in the new 9.5mm high Ultrabay Slim.

http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/com ... UJ-825.pdf

It would however fit in older T/A/X series machines with an Ultrabahy 2000.

its simply a matter of spec, like there are 12mm Laptop hard drives in older laptops and 9.5m hard drives that are in newer ones.

You will have to cut the bezel if you stick this in a thinkpad. It will need a notch taken out or the lower right sided. I tried to buy one but they were sold out. Great specs.

Sure it would work, but not in the T4x models. This unit will only work in a the ultrabay 2000/Plus slots. I haven't seen a drive yet that will work in ultrabay slim, ofcourse besides IBM parts.

I have a UJ-825 in 2 of my T30s, cut the notch as mentioned above, screwed on existing 3 piece caddy from original DVD drive and hey presto! Better than a bought one!!

Dave

With regard to the Pear Tree - does it take the Ultrabay or Ultrabay Slim Partridge?

LOL... definately the Ultrabay...... the Ultrabay Slim is more of a Kookaburra than a Partridge..... and it prefers Euculypts.

Hah. I just realized why I kept getting so confused every time I read "UltraBay Slim" on this forum.

The UltraBay Slim. Not to be confused with the UltraSlimBay in the ThinkPad 600s.

So we now have the UltraBay (760), the UltraBay II (770), the UltraSlimBay (600), the UltraBay 2000 (various), and now the UltraBay Slim (T4x).

...who comes up with these names?! :-) I think they are going to start running out of variations soon.

Jestingly,
