Can not install battery or power mgmt utilites - t40

#1 Post by paulct » Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:34 pm

In the process of trying to solve my wireless WPA problems, I decided to let sofware installer update everything. Was going fine until it hit anything to do with power, then just hung, nothing going on.

Went into the c:\drivers directory and tried to launch the setup.exe for both acpi power and battery maximizer. In both cases you get an hour glass for a second or two, and then it just ends! no error message or anything!

Stumped!!

My recollection is that is how the power management setup goes. I can't remember about Battery Maximizer. Check power management properties in Device Manager to see if, in fact, the upgrade occurred.

I would delete the install directories that have the Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management Features, as well as the Power Management Driver. Then go to IBM/Lenovo's site and download those (2) things. After downloading, double-click on the file names to have the files expanded to their appropriate install directories.

C:\DRIVERS\WIN\BMMPM\
C:\DRIVERS\WIM\IBMPM\

EDIT: forgot this step. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and uninstall the above two software packages.

Now run Software Installer, but uncheck box to "Retrieve latest information on the internet". Software Installer should show the two updates and install them. If you would rather, you can instead execute Setup.exe (double-click) in the install directory for each package.

Interesting that neither one shows up in "add/remove" programs in control panel.

Software Installer shows version 1.33 of battery maximizer, but that power management show not installed at all!

I have double clicked on the setup.exe manually, even redownloaded just those two manually without software installer and tried it, but no go.

Thanks

I have "ThinkPad Power Management Driver" version 1.32. Previously I believe it was called "IBM Power Management Driver".

I have "IBM ThinkPad Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management Features" version 1.38. I believe it was always called thus.

I see both listed as above in Add or Remove Programs.

In addition to the above, it's possible you may need to uninstall "ThinkPad Configuration", "ThinkPad Presentation Director", "ThinkPad EasyEject Utility", as these all interlink.

In addition, the Display Adapter Driver and ThinkVantage Active Protection System for the hard disk interact with the above.

OY! Well, I think I'll leave well enough alone then, until I have another evening to kill! Everything is basically working, so I will stick with the levels I have for now.
