I just received this computer on Wednesday. More and more the computer will lockup on me when I am doing anything from web browsing to typing on microsoft word. It really doesn't matter what the application is.
The screen doesn't go blank, it just freezes. Can't move the mouse, type, or press control+alt+del. The only way I can reset the computer is to press and hold the power button and restart.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sean

When you connect to the internet. Are you using antivirus software that is up-to-date? Are you connecting to the internet behind a hardware or software firewall. Are you careful in opening up e-mail that may not be legit, or has attachments? If the above is not true, you may be infected with a virus, worm, or spyware.

Virii, worms and spyware don't work if the system is locked up.
Though this is by no means a definitive guess
the symptom you're describing can be caused by faulty or loose RAM. Since it's so new, I'd see if you can have on-site help, or "drop by" service locally. A certified tech can remove the keyboard and check for both. BTW, have you tried any of the diagnostic software that comes with your fine, new Thinkpad? Mine came with PC-Doctor. If you call support, I'm sure a tech rep can interpret whatever the diagnostics tell you while you run it (as long as the system says alive).
Another idea, open the Start > Run command and type DEVMGMT.MSC and press enter. This is the Device manager display. Look through the tree (don't prune or change anything yet), and if you see anything with a red X on it, let us know. You might have a device (other than RAM) that's on the fritz.

The first T42 IBM sent me (this was over a year ago) brand new, locked up intermittantly, then the desktop resolution would get huge. Only way to reset was to remove the battery and yada yada yada. There was an error but I don't remember what it was. This was when SP2 first came out and tech support was blaming a lot of bad behaviour on it. I would use it during the day and always be paranoid about wether it would lock up again. Anyway, long story short I sent it back and got another.
