Left button trackpad is soft, and sometimes sticks

I have read that the KEYBOARD is a CRU, but is this under warranty sometimes. The unit is about a year old, but still under 3yr, onsite.

Is there a cleaning that can be done, or is the softness now permanent?

call IBM, they'll replace the keyboard for you if your unit is still under warranty.

I faced a similar issue within 3 months of buying my t43 and IBM sent me a new keyboard and touchpad unit.

My touchpad/trackpoint buttons get strange sometimes, and it's just crud caught underneath. Usually a much harder press than usual will fix it (crushing whatever's caught), if that's the problem.

Warranty

Is quite easy to persuade IBM to sent you a new keyboard and replace it yourself if not under onsite warranty..

Not any reason to live with sticky or worn out keys ..
