I want to install ATI HDTV Wonder in my DockII, but...

#1 Post by madmatrix » Fri Dec 16, 2005 3:47 pm

I am not sure about this PCI card's size. Is there anybody who knows whether dockII can accommodate this HDTV card? Full-size or half-size. Actually I don't know how this card can be named full-size or half size. Full and half is concerned about the height or lenght? Thanks.

I had the same question shopping for a CompUSA Firewire 800 PCI card. The Dock II takes a full size card (full-height, normal length), but the neat-o card I bought is a 64-bit card which will fit in a 32-bit slot (I'm going on what a CompUSA technician explained to me). The connection has a notch so a 32-bit slot will take it, even if a little bit overhangs. Confused yet? I had now idea of this kind of variety of PCI card interfaces.

Bottom line, it fit fine. Now, I don't think it will take a 12" or so card ... just the short (6"?) kind.

As for this card you're discussing, based on this picture I see here, it ought to fit just fine.
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

m... I think HDTV card can fit dockii.
You mean your 64-bit card can fit the 32-bit pci slot? If so, it's good to use this card in a 64-bit system in the future.

Yep, I guess the 64-bit cards have a stub which fits just outside the 32-bit slot. Clever.

I later thought I'd goofed by buying the Dock II and PCI card, rather than just waiting for/finding a ExpressCard equivalent to use with my Handycam. But then ... I remember that I also use the dock II as the home for my DVD drive while my UltraBay battery is locked into my laptop.

Here's a link for the card, btw, for comparison. Alas they don't seem to have a closeup pic of the card itself.

I found something even better to help illustrate for you what size card you can put in a DOCK II

Enjoy the show. What you want is in the third reel. ;)

Thanks all and Happy new year. Haven't been here for many days.
I haven't bought the HDTV card yet. I think the video quality should be excellent.

But it's unfortunate for me that my friend just gave me one ATI USB TV wonder. So I hesitate to buy the new HDTV card. Maybe sell my free DockII? So nice equipment... But now I needn't fix one TV card into my DockII. mh....
