What kind of memory does a T40 take?

#1 Post by erasmus » Sun Dec 18, 2005 7:19 pm

Hi, I got a T40 2373 model 1,5 Ghz. I want to upgrade it with another 512 Mb Ram. The one that is already installed is a 512 Mb PC2100 block.

Here is my question; is right that I don't have to get "special" IBM Ram, as it was the case with my A22m? I have been looking at this 512 Mb Kingston ValueRAM:

Kingston ValueRAM 1 x 512 MB (512 MB) / DDR SDRAM / PC2100CL2.5 / 266 MHz / 64 bit? ns CAS Latency (rotering): CL2.5

Any one know if that will go? or have experience with Kingston ValueRam. The price is around 55 USD and a similar but "IBM certified" Kingston costs around 120 USD. I can get Crucial and Corsair too, they have same specs, but cost a little more.

One more question, I also understand from this forum that I can use PC2700/PC3200 wich is a little cheaper, is that right ?

Cheers, Ras

I have 2 T40's in my bunch and they haven't been picky about any of the RAM I've thrown at them. PC2100 (266MHz) is fine as that's the spped any installed RAM will revert to. PC2700 (333MHz) is also fine and will run at PC2100 speeds. I've even mixed them with success.

Buy whichever type RAM is cheaper, but don't buy "cheap" RAM.

Thanks, super info. Then I will get me a "good" stick for a cheap price!

This time I wanted to be sure that I would not get Bios rejection; had that with Intels WIFI card and Ram for my A22m.

Cheers,

A few weeks ago I upgraded the memory on my T41 with a 512 MB stick - Kingston ValueRAM (PC2700 in my case - KVR333X64SC25/512). No problem so far.
