How to add an IBM multiburner to your T2x for $100

I did this and was quite proud of myself so I thought I would pass it on. I added a 2x DVD-r burner/DVD-Ram to my T23 for around $100. You see the multiburners going on ebay for $300 but the bare drive ones are way cheaper. I bought a panasonic UJ811B drive on ebay and when I got it I just took the front bezel and plastic ultrabay rails off of my current cd-rw drive and put them on the new panasonic. The thinkpad recognized it immediately and using record now I can burn DVD-r and DVD-ram disks, as well as DVD-RW.

The simple rule is to get a brand of dvd-r drive that is the same as your current ultrabay device. Panasonic makes the same design for all drives so the IBM parts will bold right on them. Might work for all other brands also depending on what brand ultrabay device you currently own.

Anyways I thought that was cool.

...and so cool!

If a was not going to get the t42p, I would definitely give it a try!

That is what I like about the ThinkPad community; you simply cannot find this kind of curious and savvy people in any other laptop forum!
X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)
