Any T42 Build Differences in Newer vs. Older Avail. Date

Looking at the TABook in the far right column, different T42's have different "Avail Date"s. If I was looking at something with the same basics specs (15" flexview, 1gig memory, 7k-60gig hard drive), would different models from different times have the same build quality and BIOS updates? Is it possible that an earlier model available around May'04 would have more issues than a later model available in Nov. '05 where all the manufacturing "bugs" have been worked out? I would like to think that something available in May '04 would now have the same build process as the newer released models.
