Non-Hitachi hard drive power management

#1 Post by qux » Fri Dec 23, 2005 1:17 pm

I read in a post yesterday (which I tried hard but couldn't find) that someone bought a Seagate drive and put it in their T4x and it ran their battery down twice as fast. They said they called IBM/Lenovo and was told power management wasn't working and to get a Hitachi drive instead.

One thing that came to mind is that Hitachi drives list active idle, low-power idle, standby, and sleep modes on their datasheets, while Seagates only list idle and standby. Could this be the reason?

My main concern is all the heat generated more than battery life.
