Scratch on T40 casing...

#1 Post by simms » Mon Dec 26, 2005 7:31 pm

I never noticed this before but I saw that my T40 2374-PU2 had a 3/4" gash on the lid of the notebook. It is not entirely noticable but it looks a bit deeper than a surface scratch. Is there anything I can do to patch it up, or am I SOL?

If it don't effect the operation of the laptop you're not SOL at all! You still have a fine laptop. Stuff happens you know, but how a laptop looks doesn't matter. If you really think the value of your laptop has decreased just ask yourself... would you really part with it for a lot less now that it has the scratch? Of course not! I once used some of that car wax stuff that can be used all over the car (glass, paint, trim, etc,) and it made light scratches all but disappear (it has no abrasives so it's kind of an optical illusion effect on the rubber). A friend swears by some brand of liquid that returns black trim to a rich black color, but I don't know the name of his brand. Now if you are looking for something to build up the scratch to kind of resurface the case top then there maybe you are SOL.

Good Luck, and enjoy your laptop even with the scratch!

Well, you can buy a LCD cover from IBM and replace the scratched one.
I replaced mine, and the LCD cover cost me about 40 euros, if I remember right. There is a lot of work to do, and the work is not easy, but if you download the manual and follow the instructions, you can have a new LCD cover.
