Hey all
Thinking about upgrading my T40's HD to a 7200 RPM Hitachi (60GB Model). Im sorta new to this "upgrade" business and was wondering if anyone can give me a heads up. I've narrowed it down to two models...Hitachi Travelstar E7K60 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM and Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM. Anyone familiar with these models? They seem pretty much same to me, other than a $1 difference in price. Will these drives be compatible with my T40 2373-82U ? Lastly, whats these postings regarding HD error codes? Will I get error codes if I upgrade my HD? Thanks in advance.

The E7K60 is a "rated for heavy write and read duty drive" - IE, intended for things like blade servers, etc that don't have to be turned off often. The 7K60 is a "standard" personal computer hard drive.
I have an E7K60 in my thinkpad which I use around the house and on the desk 99.99% of the time (but not left on for months like this drive is intended for). The reason I got it instead of the straight 7K60 (or the newer 7K100 model you refered too) is because:
1) I like the always on aspect of the drive.
2) I percieved a potential for longer life due to it's "rated for heavy write and read duty".
3) I was unsure how much heat the E7K60 or 7K60 would kick off and how well my R40 would handle the extra heat. So I opted for the more "industrial" of the two families (in my opinion).
I've had my E7K60 installed for 1.5 years and (knock on wood) it's been running like a champ. If I traveled or used the machine on battery frequently I'd have opted for the 7K60...hope that is helpful...

Thinking about upgrading my T40's HD...
Thanks, wolfman
so I shouldn't have any compatibility issues with either drives, right? Im pretty sure my T40's rigged for P-ATA interface...I couldnt really tell if those aformentiomed drives are PATA or SATA from the spec sheet. How can I make sure that Im buying the right drive for my T40?

If you have more information on the model numbers, you can use the following, to determine whether or not they are compatible:
For the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM:
HTS721060G9AT00 = PATA = Compatible
HTS721060G9SA00 = SATA = NOT compatible
For the Hitachi Travelstar E7K60 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM:
HTE726060M9AT00 = PATA = Compatible
For the Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM:
HTS721060G9AT00 = PATA = Compatible
HTS721060G9SA00 = SATA = NOT compatible
For the Hitachi Travelstar E7K60 60GB ATA-6 2.5in 7200RPM:
