T42 Power Management

#1 Post by phpguru » Thu Dec 29, 2005 2:39 am

Hey all!

I love my new (6 months) T42 2373-M3U except I have a couple problems.

1. Dead pixels (3-4 of them although I have seen 8+ but they turn off and on)
2. When I close my thinkpad for a while and then open it, i see a white "stress" on the screen which goes away after a bit but I think that needs to be fixed. Time to call IBM?
3. If I close my notebook for a while, I sometimes get my downloads cut off and I don't know why. I am also kicked off of AIM and IRC. I set my power management to never turn off the monitor, disks or standby when plugged in and I set my internet to full performance. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Those seam to be some problem you are having and the first two are definitely not an OS issue. I say definitely call IBM and ask for a full repair.

I'll try calling IBM regarding the first 2 issues. Any ideas on the third?

What's causing that white stress mark ... is it possible a keyboard key is being pressed against the screen?

As for #3 looks like something is interrupting your Ethernet or Wifi connection ... are you sure it's the TP? That is, everything else on your LAN doesn't see a disconnection?

Oh, I forgot to specify. I'm using wireless. And my other computers (LAN) are fine. I have no other wireless client to test unfortunately.

As for the stress on the screen, I can tell, but its coming from the tab/caps/shift part of my screen.

Well, HEL-LO. If your screen is pushing down on the TAB key enough to leave an imprssion, I'd guess *something* is going wrong. I'd stop closing it until you determined what's up with your keyboard. Are you sure it's installed crrectly (the keyboard)?

I'm not saying the keys are the problem because if I look at it as I close the notebook, it doesn't touch. Its just in that area. I'm pretty sure its installed correctly because its level and it doesn't happen on the right side of my screen.
