The open/close latch on the LCD isn't springy anymore

#1 Post by Vasant56 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 4:01 pm

I recently had an issue with my computer, and I dropped it off for repairs, and got it back today. It had the motherboard and the LCD replaced. Because I'm flying back to school on monday morning, I can't take it back for repairs, but when I got home I realized that the laptop's latch (the one on the outside of the laptop that you use to open it), isn't springy anymore. It's quite a bit harder to push aswell. I can force it to the open position, and I can force it to the close position, but it doesn't do it automatically like it used to. Is there any way I can get in there to fix the problem?

Thanks

It sounds like the wifi antenna cable wasn't tucked away properly and the latch arm is rubbing against it. Surprised the tech didn't catch it.

I suppose you could fix it yourself, at the risk of voiding your warrenty. You'll need to reference the hmm, and there might be a video, see Item #8 in the faq http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689

I've done it a few dozen times, it's a bit tricky. Another option would be to call IBM tech support, explain the situation. They can refer you to a local service depot or ship a repair box and have it back to you in a few days.
