Power schemes have disappeared

I have a T42 (2373 5TU) which has been exceptional for a year. Last week I noticed that some of the Power schemes under Power Options Properties had disappeared. Yesterday I tried to recondition the battery and the real trouble began. While the battery was discharging, the normal battery power saving conditions existed in that the screen would blank and the computer would go to standby if I didn't shake the mouse. I was not able to change the power settings (because all the power schemes had disappeared) and when the battery reached 14% the machine went into hybernate. Now I don't believe that this is what should have happened while reconditioning the battery. Now I have none of the factory supplied power schemes in either POP or Maximiser. I see that there is the opportunity to create my own schemes but this never seemed to work. I could create a scheme save it and never see it again. I have un/reinstalled both battery maximiser and power management drivers with no change. Anybody familiar with these problems?

You may have to reinstall some other software packages. But even before you try reinstalling any of the packages below, run Windows System File Checker. Type SFC in the text box of Windows Help for info. You may need to reboot after running SFC for any changes to take effect.

* From Version A-1.31, default installation folder name and modules to be
completely uninstalled were changed.
If you already installed previous version, you need to update all
the following packages too.

Thanks for the prompt reply. SFC didn't reveal any problems. I uninstalled Power Management Driver, MaxiMiser, Configuration, Presentation Director, and Easy Eject. I then re-installed them one at a time (in that order) with software installer. I then ran BMMPM Setup, there is no change.

Hello everyone. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday(s) and new year. I just had the SAME problem. I was reconditioning my battery last night, woke up this morning and boom, all my schemes were gone and the boxes are all greyed out. I REALLY don't want to reformat/reinstall b/c I just did total system overhaul last Thursday and it took me all day... any ideas? If everyone doesn' mind, I'm going to go sit in the corner and cry now...

Your sig states that you have a 6 and a 9 cell battery. Do you have the same problem with both batteries? Will the battery take a charge?

Look in Device Manager for any red X's or yellow exclaimation marks. Check in Event Viewer (under Administative Tools in Control Panel) for any events that might give a clue.

My thought on this right now is that you have a hardware problem - either with the battery or charging circuit. I could also be wrong.

Yes, I have checked the logs, device manager, etc. Both batteries charge AND hold charges. AFAIK, everything is alright. Could anyone be kind enough to export a copy of their PowerCfg registry? It's under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/PowerCfg. Please export both GlobalPowerPolicy and the PowerPolicies. I would be greatly, GREATLY thankful.

BryanW, check your registry settings that I've listed above. This is a known problem and I don't believe it's only for TP's. If you google for Power Schemes registry, pages will come up with the copies. It's just they don't seem to work for me since they might be from older versions of Windows (ie. 98, 2K, etc). Seems to solve some people's problems which is similar if not the same with ours. I'll see if I can come up with anything more. If not, may the lord help me with my reformat/reinstallation... AGAIN!

Copy and paste the code in to notepad, save as PowerCfg.reg and double-click on it. Choose YES to merge/save the registry settings in to your registry.

Too All,

After too much travel and too little sleep I got up the nerve to copy the above data into my PwrCfg (newbie at Regedit). Unfortunately this hasn't helped my problem. I know that the new config took as I see that my CurrentPowerPolicy (CPP) is now 7 (it was 15). Still no appearance or control of any power schemes. I manually changed the CPP to "11" which should have dimmed my screen when I went to battery (it doesn't, though I do hear the beep). I must remember that patience is a necessity when using computers.

Probably, but it's not guaranteed. You certainly wouldn't want to use the code above, because that is for Battery Maximiser on a T42, not Power Manager on a T60p. All I have is a T42, so I cannot help you on this one.

i have a friend with a working t60p, if i ask him to do copy his reg, what instructions can i give him? i'll just have him put them on my flash drive, and then use that.

Log on as Administrator. Go to Start > Run, type regedt32 in the text box and click OK. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg. Click on File > Export and type in a name such as PowerCfg, and click Save. Pay attention to where the file is saved to. Go there and copy that file to your flash drive [alternatively, just save it to the flash drive to begin with]. When your flash drive is in the T60p you wish to fix, choose Start > Run, and browse to the file on your flash drive, click Open then OK.

I notice there are some similar keys under HKEY_USERS [for instance one of the keys on mine is: HKEY_USER\S-1-5-18\Control Panel\PowerCfg]. You may have to Export all of those as well. Save each one under a different name. Follow the procedure above to put them in your registry.

EDIT: You'll probably have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

I am having this issue as well on my T42, starting yesterday. None of the tricks mentioned above work. On bootup, I get a dialog box telling me that battery information "cannot run on this system." After uninstalling and trying to reinstall Power Manager, I get the same message--even when working in Safe Mode.

Any fixes apart from burning the volume and applying an old backup?

I was able to reinstall the Battery Maximiser and associated power management programs.

However, I cannot apply any of the power schemes; the PM automatically changes whatever choice I make to "Intervideo WinDVD."

How can I fix this?

EDIT: Issue resolved; it was due to NHC's default settings.
