7K 100 HD

#1 Post by jmt » Sun Jan 01, 2006 2:16 am

I would like to up-grade the HD in my T-42 2378- FVU with the Hitachi 7K 100 HD. I have read of the error message problem on the T-43's because of the system bios. Will this also happen on T-42 machines or do I need not worry about any problems or conflicts with this HD?

I don't think you will get any error message with T42. The error message is only with T43, as I have understood. I put Toshiba MK1023GAX (100GB) in my T42, and I get no error message.

Hitachi Hard Drives - Which one is for me?

#5 Post by longfellow » Mon Jan 02, 2006 6:59 am

Mine is T42p 2373KYU which has 7K60 and want to upgrade it to 7K100. While checking in Hitach GST site, I came to know there are 2 drives listed as 100GB drives. They are: (1) 7K100 under which the model no: HTS721010G9AT00, 100GB, ATA and (2) E7K100 under which the model no: HTE721010G9AT00, 100GB, ATA are listed. Could any one tell me the difference between these 2 drives and which one I should go for? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The E series are designed for always-on environments (blade servers, etc) and do no have the power-saving features of the regular 7k100. I'm all likelyhood, you want the 7k100 with the Parallel ATA interface.

Thank you so much "brentpresley". So, I guess "HTS721010G9AT00, 100GB, ATA" is the one I should buy. Can you tell me which online store I can buy this from and offers good price?

Hard Drive Swap

#8 Post by longfellow » Mon Jan 02, 2006 9:08 am

I know this has already been discussed in this forum. Can somebody post a thread that guides me step by step to swap 7K100 with 7K60?

Cheapest I found was here:
http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/H ... cegrabber/

Company has pretty good reviews on pricegrabber.com, but I have not dealt with them personally.

I bought my ThinkPad from Cost Central. The purchase itself went smoothly, but they gave me incorrect information on some questions I had regarding the features of a couple of models I was interested in. Because I doubted what they told me, I had to call IBM directly to verify what I thought was true. [That was before I found out about this forum]

I would buy from them again, but don't depend on their technical knowledge.
