T43p Battery Power-On Problem

#1 Post by aeoland » Tue Jan 03, 2006 9:07 am

Hello everyone,

I have a 3 days old T43p. There is a strange problem that I hope someone has encountered, too. When I plug in the AC and the battery is being charged, then disconnect the AC and try to power on, nothing happens. If I plug the AC back in, the LEDs remain blank and still nothing happens. When I take off the battery and immediately put it back on, it starts working fine until the next charge. Has anybody hit anything like this? Of course, I will call IBM later this afternoon, but I thought that maybe there's a simple solution I could try (as opposed to spending an hour on the line, trying to describe what's going on).

I would appreciate any info.

My T43p (about 6months old) has the same problem. I have not yet contacted IBM to get this fixed.

I'd be interested in knowing your outcome after you have contacted IBM.

thnx

So far, I talked to IBM tech support. They told me that they have never heard of this problem. The tech said that he would be happy to schedule a depot repair, but -- since the unit is brand new -- I should go back to the sales department and request a replacement. As of now, I left 2 voice mails for the sales with no response. The tech warned me that they may try to delay it until the end of the initial 30-day return period, so I would not have a case. We'll see...

Lenovo replaced the unit at no charge per the initial 30-day trial policy. The new laptop doesn't have the problem, hence I assume it to be hardware-related (either the battery or laptop).

Intermittent problem

#5 Post by Manos » Sat May 20, 2006 5:41 pm

I have this problem as well. I bought my computer in March, and I've observed this glitch from the first day.

When I'm working with the AC adapter connected, everything works normally. Even if I remove the adapter while operating, I have no problem.

The problem occurs when I remove the AC cord from the unit while off, then try to start the computer. The power on button does not respond at all---no lights, no noise. Re-inserting the AC cord and pressing the power button does not start it, either. I must remove and re-seat the battery (the 9-cell model) in order to start the computer.

Has anyone a suggestion on how to solve this problem?

As suggested before, you should call Lenovo and open a problem report. They should be able to fix it under warranty. I am not aware of any other solution.

I remembered reading about a problem like this some months back. See post by DavidNZ in the following thread.

If you want to search further, click on the search icon at the top of the page, type "unplug ac battery" without quotes in the search field and choose radio button: Search for all terms. I pulled up 158 hits, a few of them related. You may be able to improve the search by adding more terms.
