Bluetooth Device not Found on T42P

#1 Post by mquinn01 » Tue Jul 13, 2004 8:09 am

I cannot seem to get Bluetooth to work on this laptop. The strangest part is that my iPAQ sees my thinkpad but it cannot connect to it. When I go to Bluetooth icon in the system tray it says "Bluetooth Device Not Found"

Doing this should solve the problem.

1. Turn the Bluetooth power on.
2. Click Start -> Control Panel.
3. Click Performance and Maintenance and then click System.
4. Click Hardware tab, then click Device Manager. button.
5. Double Click Bluetooth Radios.
6. Double Click IBM Integrated Bluetooth II or IBM Integrated
Bluetooth III.
7. Click Driver tab, then click Update Driver... button.
8. Select Install from a list or specific location then click Next
button.
9. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, then
click Next button.
10. Select one without the Digital Signed icon, then click Next.
11. When a pop-up window appears, click Continue Anyway button.
12. Click Finish button to close window.

The below link is to the current Bluetooth Driver package.
It should hae come prinstalled you just have to run it.
But if not try downloading it and then follow the instructions either in my previous post or the ones on the linked page they are the same.

To add to this thread (and ask for help!)
I just got my new Top-O-The-Line 2373-KXU. It even came with a spiffy free Bluetooth mouse [thanks IBM!]

But I am totally unable to figure out how to activate Bluetooth in Windows.
I tried "Add hardware" and it directed me to a device window which listed infrared devices but nothing about bluetooth. The System Device Manager screen shows lots of details of the machine, but Bluetooth isn't a seperate item and I can't find it.
The Access IBM panels never mention Bluetooth.
The IBM Thinkpad Configuration panel doesn't mention Bluetooth anywhere.

I installed this driver successfully, but still no bluetooth anywhere.

Is it possible IBM -FORGOT- to put a Bluetooth card into my machine?
Thanks for any advice!

Turn on the bluetooth by pressing
Fn + F5
then do the steps in the my reply at the top of this thread.
I highly doubt that they forgot to put the bluetooth module in.
What mouse did they send you????

Hi, what's the difference between the signed one and the unsigned?

I have a problem as well. i installed bluetooth integrated software III and i don't have bluetooth anywhere. No My bluetooth places icon or the icon in control panel or the tray. Before I had the Integrated software II installed and i had those icons but not from the start. They appeared one day for a reason unknown to me.

When I tried what you posted, eriqesque, i got an answer that it coudn't find the driver. But if I click "driver details", there it is.

I tried connecting to a ThinkPad trough wireless link-> bluetooth -> add device and it found the other computer. but couldn't use the connection since there are no My bluetooth places.

Can you help?

So what did you do in that case? How did you fix the problem?

do you suggest to roll back driver to Integrated software II?

Thanks.

Now I can see my brother's desktop computer and his mobile phone. We can't really share files yet, we get some error messages but i'm happy all the same. we'll fix it on the way. :D
