Multi-burner Ultrabay Slim drive for T43 problem

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please forgive if this question has already been asked. I bought the Thinkpad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive for my T43. I haven't tried writing any cds or dvds, but it seems to not be able to read DVD format disks. I've tried updating the driver from the Panasonic japan site, and it did not do the trick. I've also looked for firmware upgrades on the IBM thinkpad site and the dos prompt asks for a drive letter for a diskette (which this laptop doesn't have). I tried plugging a USB key in and have it load the image onto that, but writing directly is not allowed.

Does anyone know an URL for which I can find the latest driver for the multiburner ultrabay? I've already installed the software package for it, somehow I think it is still using the windows found driver. It's the matshita UJ-822s model.
