Security passphrase in Rescue & Recovery restore

#1 Post by SwedeBill » Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:27 am

Can someone tell me what happens to Client Security settings when a hard disk restore is performed in Rescue & Recovery 3. The help file says that, "A Client Security passphrase used to protect the Windows environment in not preserved...." In other words, do I have to worry about being shut out of the system with HD restore with the Security Chip enabled and a CSS passphrase set?

Thanks.

BTW: the reason I must do a restore is that R&R was eating up my HD space, and when I tried to delete some old image files it not only failed to delete the files by left me with less free space than I had before!!

PS: More detail on the R&R Delete disaster: I started with three full and 3 incremental backup files totalling 15.7 GB. At that time I had 13.5 GB total free space on the 51.9 GB HD. I tried to delete all but the most recent full backup file in R&R 3--a total of 10.2 GB--to recover free space on the HD. After grinding away for about 1 hour, I got an error message that the operation could not be completed because of insufficient memory. However the program continued grinding away for another hour. When it finished, R&R indicated that only some of the backup files were deleted but, even worse, I NOW HAVE ONLY 6.9 GB FREE SPACE ON THE HD, apparently with no way to clear out all the junk that now exists in the hidden and protected R&R space.
