New DLA driver, RecordNow! updates for specific CD-RW drives
While searching online at Lenovo, I found that the DLA driver for my system (YMMV) was updated recently. And RecordNow! (another Sonic product incorporated in some T4x's) has an update, too.
As always, check your model and parts information before downloading and installing updates. Review the README file. When in doubt, do the parts/downloads lookup based on our model and serial number. I'll post here if I have any trouble with my T43 with MultiBurner + drive.
CD-RW DLA application update for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad General
CD-RW RecordNow application update for Windows 2000 and Windows XP - ThinkPad General
(Posting it here as I don't know if T30 CD-RW/DVD-RW drives for earlier models are covered. Mod, please move if General hardware/software questions is more appropriate. TIA.)

Thanks for the heads-up, but the DLA update doesn't work on ANY of my laptops as it tells me there is no valid version of the software currently installed (on ANY of them
???). As I own quite a few models this seems fishy, and I will have to examine further to find the issues. The Record Now! update was from back in August and I already installed that months ago.

DLA has to be present first before the update will work. If you uninstalled DLA, the update won't work. If you still have the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA\ directory on your hard drive, you can reinstall the original version of DLA. Then you can install the update.brainpicker wrote:Thanks for the heads-up, but the DLA update doesn't work on ANY of my laptops as it tells me there is no valid version of the software currently installed (on ANY of them???).

I still have DLA. I still have the mentioned directory too as to be able to "re-install" what I already have installed (but the update can't see). But, since it's already working fine for me for my uses (DLA that is), and the so-called "update" won't update, I'm choosing not to do all kinds of work on numerous laptops just to fix what should be a simple updating proceedure. Every once in a while this happens with an uodate not installed via the Software Installer and it drives me nuts if I let myself worry about it. Not this morning... nope. I'm listening to "Sunday Morning Coming Down" but it's a wee bit early for my V&V.DLA has to be present first before the update will work. If you uninstalled DLA, the update won't work. If you still have the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA\ directory on your hard drive, you can reinstall the original version of DLA. Then you can install the update.

Yeah, I've seen what you talk about regarding Software Installer not seeing what's in the system. I'm not sure what is the best solution in the case with DLA. You can always manually download and install the DLA update from IBM (a 2-step install process), but Software Installer still may not see it for the next time an update is available.
Maybe if you uninstall DLA, then run software installer, it will see that DLA is available in the C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA\ directory and install it.
FWIW, when I see that Software Installer has an update for me, I cancel the update, then go to IBM's site and download it. Then I double-click on the file I downloaded to execute it and place the files in the install directories. Next I run Software Installer but choose not to check online. Software Installer will see the update on the hard drive and give me the option to install it, which I do. Of course those people concerned about every byte that is on their hard drive will not like my method. It does use up more hard drive space, but I always have a copy of all driver and software versions that have come out since I've owned my ThinkPad.

I don't think there is anything 'wrong' with Software Installer. I believe it's just that the designers of the software chose a method that looks for certain entries in the registry that Software Installer creates and writes to during an install. If Software Installer did not write it's entry to the registry, it doesn't realize the software is installed.rssb wrote:Is there something wrong with the software installer, it does not show the update to IBM access connections ( 4.0) but when downloaded fromt the links given here it works fine.
Now this record now DLA, also the same story.

Yep, those "sell by" dates aren't very recent, but oddly enough, NEITHER were identified in Software Installer during numerous searches for updates. I hadn't noticed them for my system during online research, but the results pages were so long it's likely I didn't see them.GomJabbar wrote:I see the DLA update came out 1-1/2 months ago, and the RecordNow! update 5 months ago.
Regardless, anyone who -- like me -- relies on Software Installer to offer updates for software installed by IBM as part of the factory-shipped image, might not've seen them.
Brainpicker ... LOL.
Gom, I'm with you ... earlier this week, I counted how many MBs my \ibmshare, \ibmtools\, etc., folders held. It went over the GB scale.
FWIW, my Software Installer didn't prompt with the new Access Connections, and I had installed and updated with SI when my lappie arrived. "Software Installer ... when it works, it works. When it doesn't, it doesn't."
