T42 - DVD/CD tray doesn't open. Drive won't recognize files

Any thoughts? I can manually open the CD tray with the 'paper clip slot'. After inserting CD in tray & closing tray, the drive is not active. OS sees the drive, but does not see the CD in the drive.

Have you tried removing and reseating the drive?

If you have and it still doesn't work, then the drive might have died.

Found a solution. I went to device manager & uninstalled CD/DVD drive. Reboot. Startup process finds 'new' hardware & reinstalls. Like magic, the tray button works again and my DVD/CD drive recognizes files on CD. Very frustrating, to say the least.
