Does the T42 and the T60 have the same screen as the T43?

#1 Post by Whyme » Mon Jan 09, 2006 1:00 pm

I had a T43 for a little while but the screen was giving me headaches. I returned it for another one but the same thing happened.

I'm wondering if the T42 or T60 have different screens that might not bother my eyes.

Thanks.

The T42 and T43 use the same parts for displays. I don't know about the T60, but I suspect so as well.

Which size screen did you have on your T43? If it was a 14", you should try a 15" Flexview screen. They're completely different, and present a much more "crisp" image. I've had both the 14 and 15 inch systems come over my desk. I never used the 14" long enough to see if it gave me headaches, because a 15" was always available.

I had the 15" with Flexview. I don't what it was but I always got a headache.

Perhaps the 14" wouldn't bother me.

I really wish they had glossy screens.

The Z60t I saw at an Office Depot nearby had a glossy screen, it was next to a T43 but I didn't suspect too much of a difference for long term viewing.

Z60t glossy? I find it difficult to believe.

Whyme - were you running your screen at a non-native resolution, by any chance?

The Z60t I saw had a glossly screen; I actually didn't mind it much, though. It seemed like a very well built Thinkpad. :)

glossy screen?! Are you sure? Lenovo does not make a Z60 with a glossy screen. Heck, Lenovo doesn't make any ThinkPad with a glossy screen.

The Z60t at my Office Depot absolutely does not have a glossy screen.

Hmmmm...You are really making me wonder now. I got a brochure from the Office Depot. I was suprised by both the T43, which had a different Chassis than my T43 and it looked more like the T60 does now, as well as the Z60t. I think the Z60t was a 2511FEU Titanium and the T43 was an 1875DMU. I remember looking at the Z60t and actually being suprised at the screen, as I was with the chassis of the T43.

There are no glossy screens on the Z60t.

T42 & T43 use different LCD panels, I believe T43's are brighter (14" anyway).

You need to figure out what was bothering your eyes. Font/item size? Refresh rate? Brightness or lack thereof?

No, the T43 and T42 use the same panels. (Well, there are two different panels in use for the standard displays, but both can be found in either model. The T43 and T42 I've used both have had the same Hydis display, it's complete chance)
I'd also assume the flexview screens are the same between both models, but I've had no experience with those.

My guess would be that the T60 uses the same panels at least for the non-flexview screens, and no clue beyond that.

Flexview is pretty much guaranteed to be the same, as it is a special type of screen that is less common.

I was told by Lenovo directly that the screen on the 14" SXGA+ T43 was different than that on the 14" SXGA+ T42, a brighter panel I believe; made by Samsung maybe? Guess it depends which panel you get, perhaps all T43's don't have the better panels.

There are two types of SXGA+ Flexview panels in the current generation of the T-series. One is made by IDTech, the other one by LG. Chances are Lenovo will still be using both fo the T60s, don't know if new ones will be introduced. I think there is only one UXGA Flexview panel that Lenovo uses.
