Changing the processor on a T43 laptop.
Hi guys,
I am trying to change the processor in my T43 1871-A62 - since i don't need so much processing power - with a mobile 1.5GHz celeron banias core SL7ME - http://processorfinder.intel.com/script ... Spec=SL7ME .
Nevertheless, the system does not power up, but I can't figure out why (s478?).
AFAIK, this is a FSB 400MHz processor, is the T43 limited only to FSB533 processors ? Or what am I doing wrong ?
I am thinking about putting another processor in it, a 1.5GHz Banias, will this work?
Thanks for any good idea.

The FSB on the T43 is, as far as I know, 533MHz; I wouldn't go and try to put a Celeron Banias into it. Also, I don't think you can change the FSB at all; why would you want to do that? IMO, even if you have more CPU Power than you need, you are putting your entire system at risk for not much of a gain.

The 1.5GHz Banias is also a 400 MHz FSB, while your T43 has a 533 MHz FSB. I think you would have to modify the hardware to get the FSB down to 400 MHz as it will never boot to allow software to change it, if there is such a tool. You might read the discussion in THIS THREAD. BTW, the Celerons are all 400 FSB.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the FSB locked via circuitry in the Intel chips now? See; http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=18838
I haven't heard of a way to clock the FSB down
