Restore CDs

#1 Post by Stingray » Tue Jan 10, 2006 2:09 pm

I was making Restore CDs and didnt realize that it needed more the 4.. and I ran out of blank CDs after the 4th one so I had to quit... How many CDs do you need for a complete set and can I start from where I left or will I have to start all over again????
AND what are the benifits of Restore CDs??? If you do a complete reinstall of the Windows XP will it be a problem finding the drivers or specific IBM programs???

Gracias...

You need 5 or 6 CD/R's, maybe 7. Do not use CD/RW disks for this as they are too unreliable. You can get all the IBM drivers and ThinkVantage software as a free download from IBM's site. You cannot download the few pieces of commercial software included such as WinDVD, RecordNow!, and PC-Doctor for Windows.

The Product Recovery Discs that you are trying to make, will restore the hard drive to the original factory state - software wise. It also deletes all existing data on the hard drive, so be forewarned.

You can only burn one set of the Product Recovery Discs. Hopefully since you didn't complete the process, the software will let you make a set still.

is it possible to order recovery CD's from IBM/Lenovo?

my system recently crashed and I've been s.o.l. for the last week trying every thing I could think of to restore it.

even the IBM Access thing wouldn't work.

I ended up using an old windowsxp disk I have and I couldn't even use my product code.

THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!

Yes. I heard around $45 or so.

Give IBM a jingle. If you are under warranty, the CDs will be free. If not, they may still send them to you at no charge--at the discretion of the tech you talk to.

If you don't get a response that you like, you can always call back, I got a set for free after just speaking with two reps. The first one asked for a credit card number and I just hung up on him.

If you tell them that the burn process failed when making the cd's they will probably send them for free(depending on the person you get).
