T40running at 100% CPU load...system idle process
I have a T40 that I just got prior to Christmas. I love it. However this weekend it has been having one issue that is bogging it down.
The system routinely is running at 100 or close to 100%. NHC is telling me that the system is running at 1.30 or sometimes even 1.4ghz
(I have a 1.3ghz pentium m). It bogs when I have several tabs open in firefox! When I control/alt/delete and look at the processes running what is soaking up my resources is something called system idle process. I can't terminate it. What the heck is it and how do I get rid of it?
I have nothing running on startup except for powermonitor, nhc, avast, and access connections.
What can I do, it used to almost never go to full load and would stay at 600mhz.
thanks in advance

Don't worry about System Idle Process. It is quite normal for it to be near 100%. Check out the following thread - especially farther down.

There are two issues here being discussed:
First, open Task Manager and then in options, set it to run minimized. This will give you a CPU indicator in the system tray.
Next, under normal circumstance, 95 percent of the time or more, CPU should be running at less than 2 percent.
If so, check the System Idle Process. It will be running near 100 percent. So that is why a prior post said not to worry about System Idle. On a normal machine, it doesn't show up in the CPU indicator.
If after all that, the CPU indicator is all or mostly bright green (indicating high CPU consumption) look for something other that System Idle Process to be the culprit.
